Garden Design

Posted on September 2, 2011 in Uncategorized by Nibbles

Over the past 2-3 week, the top maths group had to design a garden for Miss W. I worked with Alanna. We got a marked on our project, it looked great.

At first we had to draw up on a dotted piece of paper of what it was going to look like. After that we had to find prices for the garden. The mane store that we looked at was Bunnings. Alanna worked on the area of the garden I went to look for prices on the internet. We could only spend 5,000 dollars. She had 3 kids and so we had to make s play ground and a area for the kids to play with a football. We had to do a glossary and I had trouble with that. We spent 4,972 dollars. We had to look at places that we had never heard of and we couldn’t think of any places to got to. We had to use 300 sqm of land to put everything in.

It was hard at first then it got a bit easier. If I got to do it again, I would change the design and look at other shops. The easy bit about it was counting the area.

The boy with the longest shadow

Posted on August 29, 2011 in Uncategorized by Nibbles

On Friday the 26th of August, all of the grade 6/7 watched a play called The Boy with Longest Shadow. There was a man playing 2 young boys and the boys that he played were Adam and Atticus. They were 2 twins and Adam was born on the 31st of December and 2 minutes later Atticus was born on the 1st of January. Atticus always saw that Adams shadow was always bigger than his, he kept wondering why.

It was the first day of school and cause Adam was a lot popular than what he was so he tried to be Adamand because they were twins the other people didn’t know who was which. He sat with all the popular people then Adam came and said ” What are you doing Atticus, thats my hat and my clothes, Atticus”

Then Atticus said “  Well I wanted to be like you big brother”.

Then they walked home together.

On the second day of school, Atticus had an Idea, he was going to do a performance and use a lot of instruments and his one man band was called Cool History. He did a really great job, then someone called Kyle Morgan called him a loser, Then everyone started laughing at him. So his brother walked him home again, then he saw that his brothers shadow was bigger than his.

On the third day Atticus went to school and at lunch time Kyle Morgan came up and start calling Atticus names and Atticus started to talk about what he can and can not do, then Kyle Morgan walked away and then everyone was laughing at Kyle. Atticus felt proud of what he did on the outside, then he felt bad on the inside, then Adam walked him home again.

That night Atticus had a dream about the shadows and that he should be him self and not try and be something that he’s not.

That was the end of the performance. It was a great story. It is better if you be yourself and not be someone or something that you aren’t.

The End

Decimals Post

Posted on August 5, 2011 in Uncategorized by Nibbles

About 3 weeks ago my maths group did a decimals test and I got 9 out of 22, I thought that was OK to begin with then I saw it was really bad. I did some activities and we did adding with decimals and that was OK, then we have to do subtracting with decimals and that was fine, then we got to mulitping and that was hard to begin with then it got easy, then we had to do dividing and that got hard then really easy. The test was yesterday and I got 22 out of 22, I would like to thank Miss W for teaching me all about decimals.

There is a Grub called Bibaj and they are an insect Larva. They are found in the north of Queensland in the Rainforests. They can be eaten roasted or raw.

They ate a beetle called a Whrilgig beetle. They are found in the north of Queensland and they swim on the surface and under water, they swim around in circles all the time.

There is a bug called a wood cockroach. They are called a Kalabaj. You have to gently crush the shell with your teeth then suck out the insides.

There are many more interesting animals and bugs that the Aboriginals eat.

In our class we had to do a word search, 1 side was Australian explorers and the other side was Australian plants, I did a Australian explorer and his name was William Charles Wentworth. I did a little searchand this is what I found out about him.

William Wentworth was born in New South Wales, Australia 1793. He was educated in England and he came back to Australia in 1810. He got granted some land on the Nepean River.

Three years later, first white man crossing the Blue Mountains with some other Aussie explorers, Gregory Blaxland and William Lawson in 1815. A little while after he got granted more land. He went back to England in 1816.

He had a Mother and Father. His mother was a convict, Catherine Crowley. His Father was like some kind of Doctor, Dr D’Arcy Wentworth, he travelled to Australia on the same ship as Williams mother. Dr Wentworth was the superintendent of some of the convicts on Norfolk Island.

William Charles Wentworth died in 1872.

That is what I learnt about William Charles Wentworth.

In our blogs we have to write a post about what is inside a computer. This is what I found out.

  • they are coming apart of our life
  • Computerts come in so many different sizes and they have the same thing inside them
  • We store every thing on a hard drive like music. photos and soft wear
  • a hard drive is like a basement where you store everything
  • Like us,  it take a long time to get there somewhere and computers have a random access memeroy
  •  like us if we need to get stuff we have to go the long way
  • a porsesser is like a butler
  • It makes your computer quicker and when you turn it off it refreshers

We had to watch a movie on computers. If you want to watch the movie click on this link > Computer Movie

Fration review

About 3 to 4 weeks ago the top maths group did a fraction test, I didn’t know hardly anything about fractions and I got 11 out of 25, I stuck at fractions. I thought I did really bad. As I learnt how to add fractions I got a lot of homework, then went and learnt how to take, times and even divide with fractions. the dividing was super easy, I would say it was really fun. I learnt a lot over 3 to 4 weeks, I did a lot of word problems. It came test day and I and I hate tests. I had a go and got … 25 out of 25. I got them all RIGHT. YAY!!!
